The policy was announced suddenly and implemented swiftly; travel codes are now defunct, and green health codes are no longer checked at public venues

Beijing never actually had zero-COVID policies. With restrictions lifted, the virus spread rapidly, resulting in widespread infections, but none of my friends have experienced severe illness.

Shenzhen, neighboring Guangzhou, is also developing rapidly; while living in Shanghai, due to my company’s location near the suburbs, there hasn’t been widespread infection yet

It felt roughly the same, with sudden shifts – a new policy every week until full reopening

It’s undeniable that the three-year zero-COVID policy had an effect; adapting to whatever comes
